Night of Fortresses 2026
May 9 from 5:00 PM, Forte Fortress

We invite you to join us on Saturday, May 9, at the Forte Fortress for a new edition of the Night of Fortresses manifestation. This year’s evening is particularly special as we are joined in celebration by the Brlog Cooperative Brewery, which is marking its 10th anniversary!

The primary goal of the Night of Fortresses is to raise awareness about the importance of this significant fortification, which served as a key point in the defense of Zadar for centuries. Beyond its unquestionable architectural value, this year’s edition places a special emphasis on the connection between cultural and natural heritage. The Vladimir Nazor Park, built directly upon the foundations of the Renaissance fortress, currently holds the status of a protected monument of park architecture and represents a unique meeting point of history and nature in the very heart of the city.

In addition to various activities for children and adults, the event will feature performances by DJ Mario Kovač, Študija (the vocal-instrumental ensemble of the Department of Ethnology and Anthropology at the University of Zadar), Jeboton, and KRIES - an ethno-rock fusion of traditional and contemporary sounds.

Izvorišta in Zadar: Samba Touré
May 21 at 8:00 PM, Versatile Hall - Providur's Palace

On Thursday, May 21, at 8:00 PM, the Multipurpose Hall of the Providur Palace will host a concert by one of the most prominent contemporary Malian musicians - Samba Touré.

Widely regarded as one of the key successors to the musical legacy of Ali Farka Touré, Samba Touré has built a distinctive style at the intersection of traditional northern Malian music and elements of rock, funk, and soul. He creates a hypnotic and melancholic desert blues sound, featuring lyrical reflections on social issues, war, and life in Mali.

Born in Timbuktu and raised in Gao, he was immersed in the rich Songhai and Peul traditions from an early age, while his musical development was further shaped by Western genres such as jazz and rock. A turning point in his career came in the late 1990s through his collaboration with Ali Farka Touré, when he became a member of his band and developed his signature guitar style. He achieved international acclaim with the album Fondo (2010), and further solidified his status on the global world music scene with releases such as Albala, Gandadiko, Binga, and Wande.

His work represents a vital contribution to the preservation of Malian musical tradition while evolving it within the context of the global music scene. His concerts offer an intense and authentic musical experience, where tradition and contemporary expression merge into a unique atmosphere.
