Project: A Piece of Sky

For about twenty years now, the group Mangroove has been presenting its visions of popular music genres to the audience, with an emphasis on pop, soul, psychedelia, and club dance music. Their latest project, Komad neba (A Piece of Sky), uncompromisingly delivers mature interpretations and fresh ideas from this original ensemble through various collaborations.

Mangroove is an author-driven band from Zagreb that has been nurturing a contemporary blend of neo-soul, jazz, funk, and pop since 2003. The band was founded by Toni Starešinić and Željka Veverec, who have formed the creative core of the lineup from the very beginning. They are recognizable for their sophisticated arrangements, introspective lyrics, and the pronounced emotionality of their performances. Their debut album, Svijet za nas (A World for Us), was released in 2009 and established them as an important voice on the urban scene. Subsequent albums, Put na mjesec (Trip to the Moon, 2012), Sami (Alone, 2015), and Srce (Heart, 2018), confirmed their status as one of the highest-quality bands in the region, while their collaboration with the HRT Jazz Orchestra resulted in the highly acclaimed project Nešto veće od nas (Something Bigger Than Us). Their music is characterized by the union of a sophisticated musical expression with easy listening, making them equally appealing to both festival and club audiences. On stage, they are known for powerful concerts and a spontaneity that often includes reinterpretations of their own songs in new, improvised forms.
