Ivan Krpan is a 20-year-old Zagreb-born pianist, who won the first prize at the prestigious Feruccio Busoni pianist competition. The word ‘prestigious’ here is not just a catch phrase. Namely, the competition, which has been taking place in the Italian city of Bolzano since the foundation in 1949, has been completed without a winner on more occasions than with one. Until 2001 the competition was held annually and since then it was held biannually. From the last eight competitions, four of them were completed without the award of the first prize! Considering this fact, the first prize awarded to the young 5th-year-student of the Zagreb Music Academy in the class of Prof. Ruben Dalibaltayan, appears extraordinary. Ivan has been recognized and rewarded by the Croatian musical scene: he was awarded the 2015 Best Young Musician Award (the Ivo Vuljević Award) and in 2016 he was awarded by the Zagreb Philharmonic. In 2018, the Zadar Chamber Orchestra grantshim recognition by welcoming him in Zadar. The concert is an interesting encounter of mature Zadar-based string players and the young soloist who amazes with his incredibly mature interpretations, almost inconsistent with his age, and thus wins the heart of the audience, directly and genuinely speaking only one true language – the truth!
