La belle epoque médiévale
KATARINA LIVLJANIĆ, mezzosoprano
DANIJEL DETONI, piano
Y. Guilbert, E. Satie, C. Debussy
With this concert, Zadar Concert Office invites the audience for a walk through the Parisian salons and concert-cafés from the early 20th century, to meet poets, musicians and eccentrics inspired by the Middle Ages. We areguided through the intimate, acrimonious and winding streets of Paris by Katarina Livljanić, the Zadar-born singer and musicologist, and the creator of this imaginative and interesting project. She is an artist with permanent residence in Paris, where she works as a professor at the renowned Sorbonne University. Together with the Zagreb-based pianist Danijel Detoni, Ms. Livljanić introduces to us a number of controversial people, such as Yvette Guilbert, she takesus to the intimate world of Erik Satie or to the romantic spheres of Claude Debussy. Simultaneously, through the programme shepresents a number of medieval and neo-medieval chants, as well as odd declamation and fragments of Gregorian melodies that, as she says, “do not only benefit the revitalisation of a historical repertoire or an aestheticized musical arabesque, but primarily benefit the enjoyment in sacral, erotic and ironic scenes, where it is almost impossible to distinguish between singing and talking, between acting and playing”.
