THE VIRTUOSOS OF SPLIT
Wladimir Kossjanenko, conductor
Kajana Pačko, cello
program: F. von Suppè, P. Dešpalj, L. van Beethoven - G. Mahler, G. Holst
At the initiative of the Artemis Music and Art Association, Music Youth and the Music Department of the Academy of Arts at the University of Split, prominent professional musicians from Split joined forces in 2012 under the direction of violist and conductor Vladimir Kossjanenko to found a unique chamber orchestra in Split with continuous concert activities in Croatia and abroad. The ensemble’s professional level is the result of the work of its active musicians with many years of experience on concert stages around the world, as well as professors of the Music Department of the Art Academy of the University of Split.
The carefully designed program consists of an overture from the operetta Light Cavalry by Franz von Suppè, a composer that brings Split and Zadar together in the most beautiful way possible. Born in Split, Suppè came to Zadar when he was only five months old, from where he left for Vienna at the age of seventeen and went on to achieve world fame. The program is named after the founder of the Evenings, Pavle Dešpalj, whose Cello Concerto will fill the inner space of the church with the sounds composed by the very visionary responsible for transforming it into one of the most special European music stages.
