Two premieres at the new concert of the Zadar Chamber Orchestra

fri, December 13th, 2024

On Monday, December 16th, starting at 8 pm, the University's Ceremonial Hall will host a new concert by the Zadar Chamber Orchestra.

The Zadar Chamber Orchestra has been operating since 1961 and is today one of the most representative Croatian chamber ensembles. For almost twenty years, it has been led by maestro Ivan Repušić, a conductor from Zadar with an extremely active international career. The Orchestra has gone through a dynamic path in its development. Founder Pavle Dešpalj and artistic directors Petar Vrbančić, Dragan Novak and maestro Ivan Repušić have, through tireless effort and work, realized the goal that was clearly set at the beginning: to provide Zadar and the people of Zadar with concerts and the joy of making music in their city.

The repertoire that the Zadar Chamber Orchestra nurtures includes works from Baroque, Classicism and Romanticism to contemporary music. A special place in the repertoire is occupied by works by Croatian composers, and commissioned works by contemporary domestic authors are also regularly included. Thus, on Monday, 16 December, on the third anniversary of the death of its founder, maestro Pavle Dešpalj, two premieres will be heard. Pensieri riparati is a new work by composer and conductor Ivan Josip Skender, who will also conduct the Zadar Chamber Orchestra on this occasion, while the second new work is Horn/Certino by saxophonist and composer, chamber musician, improviser and pedagogue Gordan Tudor. Along with the two new works, the St. Paul Suite in C major, op. 29, no. 2 by Gustav T. Holst and Édouard Lalo's Concerto for cello and orchestra in D minor, arranged by cellist Branimir Pustički, who will appear as a soloist this evening alongside horn player Boštjan Lipovšek.
