A press conference was held on Wednesday, September 20 at 11 a.m. in the Bersa Brothers Concert Hall of the Rector's Palace in Zadar, at which the Concert Season 2021/2022 was announced. The rich music program of the upcoming concert season was announced by the director of the Zadar Concert Office, Melita Ivković. The cycle of the Zadar Chamber Orchestra was presented by the president of the Zadar Chamber Orchestra, Linda Ivić Bijuklić. The director of the Blagoja Bersa Music School Branka Višić Karavida announced the Bersa Cycle.
As an introduction to the season, the South Bohemian Philharmonic Orchestra visited Zadar in September, followed by Mia Pečnik, a pianist who was awarded the title of the best young Croatian musician in 2020.
With each new concert season, the subscription concert cycle hosts musicians, ensembles, orchestras and soloists of the highest artistic acclaim. The grand opening is scheduled for October 4th. The Zadar Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of the chief conductor Ivan Repušić, celebrates its 60th anniversary, with Roman and Milena Simović as the soloists. This round anniversary is not just a number - six decades ago Zadar launched the Musical Evenings in Sv. Donat and the Zadar Chamber Orchestra, two backbones of musical life that today attract and bring together to a greater extent than ever. The cycle closes on June 19 with a concert by the Munich Philharmonic Octet, an ensemble composed of prominent soloists from one of the world's leading orchestras.
In addition to the opening of the season, the Zadar Chamber Orchestra will have five more concerts in its own cycle, with guest conductors and soloists, while the cycle Children and Youth, in March will present the program for children. After many years of success with Sergei Prokofiev's symphonic fairy tale Peter and the Wolf, it's time for another classical music program for children - Camille Saint-Saëns' Carnival of Animals! In the same cycle, in October this year, the project Zadar Kindergarten Kids Discover Peter and the Wolf will be organized, which received funding from the Ministry of Culture. For the fifth year in a row, the Concert Office will organize a free Sound Workshop, and the organization of DJ and VJ workshops is planned.
The Bersa cycle is named after Blagoje Bersa, one of the most important composers active in Zadar, whose name is proudly worn by the Zadar School of Music. The cycle includes four concerts in cooperation with Blagoje Bersa Music School in Zadar, enabling its professors and students to present their work to a wider audience and to encourage new projects and collaborations, such as is the Bersiade (Bersijada), which promotes Bersa’s music on all levels - from students and professors to professional musicians. This season, Bersijada will be held as part of the Subscription, at a concert in January where the Zadar soprano Marta Hut will perform the program Croatian solo song in the European context with the piano accompaniment of Jurica Šoša.
Zadar cycle, will feature musicians from Zadar - the Zoranić Choir, organist Tea Kulaš, and piano duo Antonija Šoša and Ivan Štorić.
In the Club cycle, Elvis Stanić Group is coming to Zadar on November 25 after many years. Other names include jazz guitarist Renato Rožić and Indian tabla master Raul Sen Gupta, as well as Borna Pehar Quartet, a fusion band led by a young Zadar keyboard player who is finishing his jazz studies in Klagenfurt.
